  • Staggering: Mich. Family Violently Targeted After Standing Against Teacher Who Molested Their 8th Grade Son
    Aug. 19, 2013 3:27pm Erica Ritz

The Janczewski family is fighting the local school district in Rose, Michigan after it emerged that a male teacher molested their 8th grade son and then — unbelievably — six other teachers spoke out against the 15-30 year sentence the man received.

“Neal has plead (sic) guilty for his one criminal offense but he is not a predator,” Harriet Coe reportedly wrote. “This was an isolated incident. He understands the severity of his action and is sincere in his desire to make amends…”

Neal Erickson was sentenced 15-30 years in prison in July.

John Janczewski, the father of the victim, spoke on the Glenn Beck radio program Monday about all that has happened to his family since the horrific molestation by now-former Rose City Middle School teacher Neal Erickson came to light. He said he and his wife have been threatened and attacked for speaking out against the teachers.

“At one thirty in the morning on a Saturday, I was awoken to a bomb sound going off,” Janczewski said, choking back emotion. “I went to the window to find my garage was on fire and engulfed in flames, my camper and the side of my house…If I wouldn’t have woken up, we could’ve all died.”

“Whoever’s done this has no remorse,” he told the Ogemaw County Herald earlier. “They have no soul.”

The family also had the letters “YWP” and “ITY” spray painted on the side of their house, which Janczewski thinks mean “you will pay” and “I told you.”

  • R.I. health care exchange releases price of plans for 2014
    August 20, 2013 11:30 PM
    By Felice J. Freyer
    Journal Medical Writer

    The numbers are finally out.

HealthSource RI, the Obamacare health insurance exchange, on Tuesday released the prices of the plans it will offer to small businesses and individuals in 2014. Now, a spreadsheet available online reveals an individual’s monthly premium for each plan, based on age.

But anyone looking to make generalizations about costs will have a harder time.

With 12 plans for individuals and 16 for businesses, each varying in the deductibles and co-pays charged, and each different from plans currently offered, it’s hard to say whether prices are going up or down. Most likely, prices will go up for some people and down for others –– but there will be more choices for all.

For example, a 29-year-old buying a plan as an individual will have a choice of 12 plans with monthly premiums ranging from $168 to $316. A 59-year-old will have options ranging from $433 to $735.

The highest allowable out-of-pocket cost is $6,350 for an individual or $12,700 for a family (this figure includes co-pays and deductibles, but not premiums), but some plans cap out-of-pocket costs much lower.

  • Iowa husband shoots, kills escaped inmate who held him, wife hostage
By Mayra Cuevas and Shawn Nottingham, CNN
updated 12:14 AM EDT, Wed August 21, 2013

(CNN) -- An Iowa man shot and killed an escaped inmate on Tuesday after the convict held him and his wife hostage in their home, investigators said.

Jerome Mauderly, 71, and his wife, Carolyn, 66, were asleep when escaped inmate Rodney Long, 38, broke into their rural Bedford home a little after 10 p.m. on Monday, said Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation spokesman Mitch Mortvedt.

Long -- who had allegedly shot a deputy pursuing him on Sunday -- woke up the Mauderlys and disabled their landline phones except for a line in the couple's bedroom. He then took a shotgun that Jerome Mauderly, a retired prison guard and farmer, had loaded that night and placed next to the bed before going to sleep.

"(The Mauderlys) knew the situation. There was an escaped inmate, armed and dangerous. They were not the only people in the community that had loaded weapons that night," Mortvedt said.

The Mauderlys' home is isolated, surrounded by cornfields with the nearest neighbor about a mile away.

Long took the shotgun from the bedroom and moved it to the kitchen. He held the Mauderlys hostage at gunpoint for about four hours while he rummaged through their home for supplies and used their cell phone.

Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, while Long was upstairs looking for supplies, Jerome Mauderly sneaked into the kitchen and recovered his shotgun, Mortvedt said. Carolyn Mauderly called 911 from their bedroom. When Long walked down the stairs, Jerome Mauderly shot him in the torso. Long was found lying face down in the kitchen, Mortvedt said.

  • Why Obama Is Looking More and More Like Jimmy Carter
By DAVID FRANCIS and ERIC PIANIN and JOSH BOAK, The Fiscal Times
    August 20, 2013

President Obama returned to Washington on Monday from a week’s vacation on Martha’s Vineyard – and now has his hands full with a litany of challenges while wielding strikingly diminished influence:

    • Egypt is on the verge of a bloody civil war, while much of the rest of the Middle East is in turmoil. But the president has little leverage to shape events, and appears mostly to be an observer as the debate builds about U.S. aid to Egypt.

    • Congress and the White House are caroming toward another budget and debt ceiling crisis this fall, but Obama lacks a clear strategy to pressure the GOP into a deal on his terms. Republican and Democratic lawmakers have dismissed most of his proposals –including his latest offer of corporate tax reform and infrastructure spending.

    • Obama had to postpone for a year several important provisions of his Affordable Care Act, while his signature 2010 law is under siege by GOP lawmakers and conservative groups and has the lowest approval rate to date, according to the latest CBS News poll. The success of his program could hinge entirely on the ability to convince 2.7 million young people to sign up for health insurance.

    • Russian President Vladimir Putin snubbed Obama’s request to extradite NSA leaker Edward Snowden to the U.S. for disclosing classified details about government surveillance programs.

    • The economy appears to be locked in perpetual doldrums, with every modest gain quickly offset by some economic disappointment or setback.

Momentum is working against Obama, whose lame duck status gets more prevalent with each passing day. Political journalists have already turned much of their attention to the possibility of a Hillary Clinton run for the presidency three years from now.

  • Taxpayers file lawsuit to block Woonsocket tax

WOONSOCKET – Several taxpayers are moving forward with their threatened class action lawsuit to block the city from fully imposing a supplemental tax on city residents.

The gist of their claim, they say, is that the tax "is not in compliance with the legislation that originally authorized it."

A lawsuit was filed Thursday, Aug. 15 in Rhode Island Superior Court by taxpayer advocate attorney Robert Senville.

He notes in a statement that legislation approved by the General Assembly last spring authorized Woonsocket to issue a supplemental tax "contingent upon the city of Woonsocket's realization of a total amount of no less than $3.75 million in savings resulting from municipal enactment and concessions from collective bargaining agreements."

He says the lawsuit points out that "at least $2.9 million of the projected savings being claimed by the Budget Commission can be or is currently the subject of a legal challenge and that, therefore, it appears that these potential savings, which certainly have not been realized at this early date, may be at risk of never being realized as required by the state law."

Rhode Island, which has been controlled by the Democrats for over 80+ years, continues to screw the middle class tax slaves...don't you just love it...

P.S....we have way too many "low information voters" in RI...

P.P.S...the average teachers pension in RI is $38,000+ (which is about $18 hr for 40 hrs x 52 weeks) and free medical...don't you just love it...

  • In classified cyberwar against Iran, trail of Stuxnet leak leads to White House
    By Rowan Scarborough
    The Washington Times
    Sunday, August 18, 2013

The Obama administration provided a New York Times reporter exclusive access to a range of high-level national security officials for a book that divulged highly classified information on a U.S. cyberwar on Iran’s nuclear program, internal State Department emails show.

The information in the 2012 book by chief Washington correspondent David E. Sanger has been the subject of a yearlong Justice Department criminal investigation: The FBI is hunting for those who leaked details to Mr. Sanger about a U.S.-Israeli covert cyberoperation to infect Iran’s nuclear facilities with a debilitating computer worm known as Stuxnet.

Poverty is now moving to suburbia under Obama

Poverty Isn't Just in City Ghettos; It's the Land of Picket Fences, Too
    Aug. 13, 2013
    By EMILY DERUY

Poverty is often associated with inner city ghettos, fenced-off projects, or neighborhoods ridden with vice and crime. But the fastest growing poor population actually resides in the land of minivans, picket fences, and big box stores: suburbia.

According to a recent Brookings Institution analysis, major metropolitan suburbs became home to the largest and fastest-growing poor population in the country in the 2000s. Poverty levels increased in nearly every congressional district in the nation, hitting Republican and Democratic districts alike.
