    Food is waaaay overpriced

The burgers have gotten a little pricey, but they're also very good. And of course there are hundreds of other items on the menu. Burger lunch at any sitdown costs about the same these days, and you can drop ten dollars on a burger, fries, and drink at most fast food places. Burger, soft drink, and tip costs nearly twenty now at CAKE, but the real problem is they are too often overcrowded at lunch primetime and you can't get a seat, otherwise I'd suggest they offer more lunch deals like some other places. Actually they do have lunch deals, try the Chinese chicken salad or Shiela's Cashew Chicken salad, two of the best anywhere in town.

CAKE used to have a double barbeque-bacon cheeseburger that was great, but, well, had twice the calories of the current burgers! I suppose they would be happy to double one for you now, for a few bucks extra, if you asked. I'm better off without the calories these days, I guess.

Looks like they finally lowered the guidance specifically so they wouldn't "disappoint", actually I think they are sandbagging a little, but the numbers are the numbers and that's what needs to start improving.

About 8x normal volume today, but on this chart pattern I expect lower lows before it starts back up so I think we'll get another chance.

OTOH I keep wondering if this could be a buyout target for someone, if the price ever got hit hard I think someone would come out of the woodwork, if only to take it private.

Third, we are looking at options in addition to the Cheesecake Factory restaurants to support meaningful growth into the future. We are open to new concepts whether internal or external and ways to leverage the power of the Cheesecake Factory brand.

We are actively working on these efforts in a thoughtful and highly selective way with the goal of having at least a couple of opportunities prime within the next few years.

Ha, I missed this because it followed their "AUV" talk, that I had to go look up.

I missed any new concept stuff, I hope it's not a third menu! I see we're down to 47 already, and I'm tempted to buy a few more shares.

Well I mostly agree with you but the macro effects are flat at best. OTOH CAKE sells more to those who were already doing well, and most restaurants are already at capacity, can't really seat any more during primetime. And maybe reduced gas prices don't motivate anyone to spend more on alcohol, the quickest way to increase average check sizes.

If you ask me, best thing they could do is to spin off a premium fast/casual chain that could show better margins and add significant new revenues. And offer slightly less fattening food! Maybe buy the faddish new LA chain "Lemonade", straighten out their format a little, and franchise it nationally. At least use them as a model.

Ouchy. $49 after-hours. Timing or not, if/when it hits the 200ma around $47 might be worth a look. However the big fail here and the lack of guidance, is troubling. I thought the last 60 days of low gas prices might already have boosted them, but if it did then it must have been horrible beforehand!

  • tradermkx, you got a nice little spike, nice call, but while it's sagging a bit now I see a Zach's article proposing an upward revision for this quarter, that would seem to justify the spike and more. OTOH others don't think so, consensus is 2.4, mildly bullish, has been for a year. Frankly I don't think many analysts are following very closely. I'm going to revise, I think they'll be very close to estimate rather than miss low, at least because lower gas prices weren't in the last estimate. And so they'll guide up a couple of pennies, too, but no dividend boost until July, if and when the new estimates are met.

    Thoughts?

Well, it's sure attempting a breakout, closed above the Bollinger band yesterday and looking to close right on the line today, suggests a little higher movement over the next couple of weeks before anything much lower. But I'm thinking market will decline first weeks in January killing the momentum. We'll see.

I don't see an imminent breakout but it is for the moment holding strong around fifty and may report good enough earnings not to tank, at least not lower than about 44.50, maybe even above 200ma at 46.00. I'd be surprised at earning so good it spikes up.
