Current estimates for 1st and 2nd quarters are 0.42 and 0.41 respectively. That's a major drop from last year. Why are they so low? I don't think stock can rebound if earnings are this low. Thoughts?
"recover into 30s"
INTC has not gone into the 30s for over 5 years. It's PE will always be around 9-11. Unless they grow their earnings to $3/yr, the 30s won't be happening. Do you think INTC can grow earnings to $3/year? how?
What's the upside for Intel in 2013?
They may get design win with Motorola for a new phone selling in US market, but can it compete with the likes of iPhone5 and Samsung's Galaxy S3/NoteII and upcoming S4/NoteIII?
Where's the upside?
No Apple deal means no upside. And it seems stock price has been help up due to stock repurchase. Comments?
I see that quote at:
Report: TSMC confirms U.S. wafer fab site hunt

You are saying the 20-nm bulk planar CMOS process is for Apple?
He also commented at Bernstein conf. saying "I'm not selling" at these current low prices.

Project "Azalea" rumors swirling and TSMC recently breaking ground on new 20nm/16nm finFET ...all point to Apple going with TSMC
Would the $10 billion chip plant be the TSMC dedicated fab? you think?
I don't think Apple has the experience/know-how to become their own fab.
Article says Apple is building a chip factory in NY costing $10 billion.
In the article, it says:
According to the report, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo “seemed to acknowledge” in a radio interview that Apple was involved in what is a “top-secret plan.”
Would this be the dedicated TSMC fab??
I don't think they can just go with tsmc without a dedicated fab...any chance Apple would go with Intel for their foundry work?
Demand is strong. Can Apple afford to go with TSMC and risk capacity issues in the future? The answer is obviously no.
Would a dedicated fab using TSMC be a good investment? seems to me either they go with Intel or build a dedicated fab with TSMC. Comments?
When will Valleyview SoC be available? Anybody know? Article from xbitlabs says late 2013; is it true?
I agree from outside, it looks like Intel is the obvious choice ...especially considering that Intel is already talking about 10nm and 5nm for 2015....and certainly there is risk going with TSMC and GF..what if there is a delay for them switching to FinFET? or the yields aren't as expected...certainly lots of risk there!
I agree it would be a game changer but not betting on it...I think Intel will be just fine without the deal...they will get design wins coming up with their 22nm SoCs
Stock looking good
Several articles today saying TSMC will get next iPhone contract and recently Mark Bohr stated:
Separately, Bohr said Intel does have a growing foundry business that may include some higher volume applications than its current announced customers like FPGA startup Achronix. However, “we don’t intend to be in the general-purpose foundry business…[and] I don’t think the [foundry] volumes ever will be huge” for Intel, he said.
Intel stated:
“Intel’s 22nm SoC [System-on-Chip] technology will be ready for high volume manufacturing in 2013″
Does it mean Silvermont/Bay Trail will be available in 2013? What about that leak last month?
I guess you have your answer!
Current estimate is $0.45 for this quarter and $2.10 next FY. Does that sound realistic to you? Seems very low....Opinion please
What makes you say that? Does TSMC have the capacity to fulfill Apple?
