You are assuming that discrete graphics is a stagnant business. It will grow with VR.
Also their console gaming business is profitable even though its low margins.
The key is not how much revenue they make, but can they be profitable.
and will restructure for discrete graphics and gaming. Zen was the final experiment which didn't work out.
Its a very good move because AMD can easily compete with Nvidia because they both outsource their fabs. I finally see hope for AMD if it is not too late.
zen is was a pie in the sky project which Jim wanted to experiment with. So AMD gave him a chance. Now after it being taped out and the results are in, they have realized its still an experiment that didn't work out. Skylake may have also had something to do with it now that AMD has seen it.
Anyway.. Despite what AMD PR puts out on zen its dead.
Samsung calls em finfets but they are some hybrid with 20nm backend. Its not a TRUE finfet.
the foundries. Only some hodge podge, ones.
Will they ever have true finfets? I doubt it.
given that they suck on Windows 10 and DX12?
Once it becomes clear to the gamers that buying an Nvidia card is a losing proposition, because it won't do as well on Windows 10 and DX12, gamers will instantly switch to AMD cards.
Futureproofing is where its at. Nvidia will have a steep drop off in sales and AMD will pick it up. upto 50% marketshare for AMD in graphics in the next 2 years.
Oh well.. another one to eff up at the FED. So whats new.
Still no one will buy em. But if you wan't a tablet, you could get one for real cheap.
illegal immigrants and building a wall.
That dude is funny as hell.
$400 is not mid level. It is near high end. Very few ultra high end cards are sold its all PR nonsense.
Last year AMD had 34% of the discrete graphics market. Next year by this time, AMD will recapture all that marketshare on the heels of Windows 10 and DX12.
Layoffs coming at Nvidia. You were warned.
the Ipad pro, except maybe for play.
Mac OS did not make any headway in the enterprise, and neither will the Ipad pro.
Now if Weaver were to just pipe down about the Ipad pro... Ain't going to happen.
The question is wether the custom division is included in their Radeon business. Console gaming is $2B/yr revenue.
Samsung 14nm is a better process? Unless TSMC offers Apple significantly better prices, it doesn't make sense to switch.
Apple is in the business of making $$. Intel is in the business of giving things away for free or cheap.
