Thanks to devon on IV for posting this part of the article.
Google moved up to the No. 11 spot in 2013, having been awarded 1,851 patents; it ranked No. 21 in 2012. Apple was close behind, ranking No. 13 with 1,775 patents in 2013; it was No. 22 in 2012.
The jump is significant, given that in 2011 Google, creator of the Android operating system, did not even make the top 50. But Google is working hard to position itself as the technology powerhouse of the future. And haunted by Apple’s global battles with Android phone maker Samsung Electronics Co., the company has aggressively sought new patents. All that work was handsomely rewarded by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office last year almost 2,000 times.
“We generally don’t see a lot of change in the top 10, but as we move down the list we’re starting to see companies with double- and triple-digit growth,” said Mike Baycroft, chief executive officer of IFI CLAIMS Patent Services, which released the 2013 data. “Companies like Apple and Google clearly have momentum, and further down below the top 50 we’re seeing candidates like Amazon, Veriz on and Huawei jumping in the rankings. The question is, can they sustain it?”
IBM Corp. remained at the top of the list for the twenty-first consecutive year and is still well ahead of the pack with a record-setting 6,809 patents received in 2013. That is a 5 percent increase over the previous year and more than 2,000 patents above No. 2 patent recipient Samsung Electronics Co. Canon Inc. was No. 3, with 20 percent more new patents in 2013 than in 2012.
The fastest mover in the top 10 was Qualcomm Inc., which made its debut at No. 9—up 62 percent over 2012 when it was No. 17, according to IFI. Microsoft Corp. moved up to No. 5, edging out Panasonic Corp. and just behind Sony Corp.

I think Terp has been harping on this issue for months and months. Its clear that Avaya has ,the rest will follow
VIRNETX AND AVAYA SIGN A JOINT PATENT LICENSE AGREEMENT
Posted Aug 8 2013 by VirnetX in Press Releases
ZEPHYR COVE, NV – August 8, 2013 – VirnetX Holding Corp. (NYSE MKT: VHC) today announced that on August 7, 2013, it signed a Patent License Agreement (the “Agreement”) with Avaya Inc. Under the terms of the Agreement, VirnetX has agreed to license certain of its patents to Avaya, in exchange for multiple payments to VirnetX and an ongoing reasonable royalty for future sales through the expiration of the licensed patents as outlined in the Agreement with respect to certain current and future IP-encrypted products. In further consideration, Avaya has agreed to license certain of its patents to VirnetX for its ongoing Gabriel technology product development.
Big news for sure. Government related. US Department of Energy.
Love it, Avaya spends dollars to make millions and Cisco saves dollars and loses millions. Who will be next to see the light. Why fight or steal. Pay a far price to license and move on to do what you do best.
Terp if Avaya thought that VHC patents wernt valid they would have continued the fight. They saw a better solution. Stop stealing, pay for what VHC has developed ,move on and make real money. Avaya has signed a 1/2 dozen or more deals since they have settled with vhc. Avaya has made back their licensing fee in many folds.Thats part of my point, you know the rest.
Had to rub my eyes JSB. Slumming are you. The Yahooligans missed you. Yes I am thinking by the end of Jan we get some news as well.As you say so many catalysts this year even without the Apple settlement After all these years we dont want to be out. The big Android boys are lurking IMO
Osprey the final signed judgement came down On June 4th. Oral arguments usually come into play anywhere from 6 months to 10 months after the signed judgement.April is 10 months. could be more or less. I thought I had it written down but cant seem to find if an actual date has been set. And yes after oral arguments it could take 6 months plus or minus. Its a ways off however you look at it. IMO we wont have to wait for Apple appeal to be denied ( My Opinion ). Like the others that have aleady signed and taken a license some new BIG companies will not want to be tied up in court as 4Glte A rolls out. They wont be as stupid as Apple and try and save dollars and lose million. Again JMO.
I have a good reason why and sure many others do as well. We used to get shorts that gave us a good reason to do DD. Remember Victor. There were times he was actually doing some DD before he posted. No one like him left.
Yes the board sure gone to pot. In reality I believe it is extremely hard to keep any board in tact over such a long period of time.3 ,4 or 5 years takes its toll. IV has managed very well to hold up, thank god. I have stayed here because I wouldnt add much over on IV,lots of bright people over there, you included. Thought I could do more damage here,I mean do more good. Some good people here that mostly lurk. I was absent for 6 months as I was doing a construction project. Back now to releive the team. Its been awhile since we talked about the $100pps party. The new bashers will eat that line up. What ever happen to the rocket. Jeff still have it.... All the best to you as well.
Damm, I forgot about Johnnystocks. I remembered Victor, maybe one in the same.I just talked to Jeff today ,forgot to ask about his snakeskin boots. OMG this brings back memories of a fun time. The Fat lady is warming up in the back room.
Not getting out after 3 years, actually adding. Its a good spot right here at $18
nice post big. Very informative and classy. Glad to have you on this board...Not really
Huge amount of calls expiring worthless, over 60,000 and about 28,000 puts expiring in the money. Thats 2.8 million shares that will get put to the sellers of those put contracts. If you sold those puts and have the shares,no problem you keep the premiums and lose your shares. If you sold naked you will have to borrow those shares or will there be a major scramble to cover those puts in the next 2 hours. With this low volatility it would appear that these positions have already been addressed.
Monday could be interesting to those losing shares today and wanting to replace those shares. We shall see
Terp I cant find shares to borrow. Schwab is HTB Are you just doing reverse conversions and creating shares
Terp KL has somewhere around 9 million shares. Selling calls would bring in lots of money. BUT he has to file form 4 and disclose his trades. Nothing has ever been filed to disclose KL is selling calls. so this aint happening. Good thought though
