    Good Afternoon jrstewart73....
Don't think this is the time for buying. Currently, GGT is has continuaqlly been performing as the worst cef in my guide portfolio. They are showing a report card grade of 46 vs 100 [failing] and only has a pwr rating of 51 [vs 100]. With a very low star rating of 4 [0-10 star rating with 10star the highest]. I have been selling off some of my excess GGT as all of the other cef's are performing very well in this current mkt. I remain fully invested in my current portfolio as the mkt continues to perform very well. The old adage prevails: Don't marry our investments.

    GAB as an investment

    Good Evening jamesotte....
GAB is currently a "TRADERS" dream [IMHO] in selling continuous changes [up/down]. The new GAB managers are still looking on "how" to perform well in "both" the up and down mkt's [like Mario Gabelli did]. Until this happens GAB will not have a "neutral" marker in any sine curve that we may be watching....
Bottom Line: Don't watch GAB for the next 30 days or so. However, always howevers, we are approaching 4/15 where all the traders start leaving the mkt for the summer [come back after labor day]. With the traders leaving expect more "low volume" days and a more erratic volatile mktprc's [IMHO]....

    Good Afternoon jrstewart73....

GAB has always been "VERY" good to us [in their past performance and the RO's at 7. This time around, with Gabelli out and two new managers, the jury is still out...
Currently looking at my current data, with 25 securities in portfolio across many sectors, GAB is one of my worst performers with the current mkt performance [rated 23rd in overall performance with GGT 20th]....
I have just sold some GAB for some much better performers as I had too many shares to hold [no change for GGT] for their current negative performance. I am still waiting & waiting for "SOME" improvement....
Only "TIME" will tell us the rest of the story....
    Have a ":GREAT" week....

    Good Afternoon....
Gab has announced a 3.2 mil share 5.45% series J cumulative preferred. The offer will close 3/31 and is priced at $25 [the norm by GAB for issuing preferred]. The money being received by GAB will be used for investment purposes....
Single Opinion: There has not been any inside buying [as expected] and the preferred money being received may not help GAB [as present performance has been sub par for both up and down mkt's]. My current data shows, with the current mkt decline [again], gab is sinking below what we have been used to. The new managers have yet to perform and in addition put up some of their own money for "their" insider buying activity to make investors [and any new investors] again believe that the new managers are similar in "good" performance like gabelli that they had replaced when Mario Gabelli stepped down....
One single opinion of the many I am sure....
    Have a "GREAT" week....

    Good Afternoon....
ROC is a reference to "return of capital" (investment made with our share price paid). What the investment firm is saying is that the dividend or distribution being paid has some return of capital in the dividend or distribution in order to pay the distribution or dividend....
Bottom line: ROC normally indicates that the security in question is paying out more than they are making with their current investments. Normally a bad sign but it is always talking about "Previous/past performance" and is "NOT" current performance going forward. In order to get a feel for ROC [going forward], always look at the current mkt performance [is it going up or down] and we get a sense for where the ROC is going [up mkts, roc will be less ("improving" the previous roc that has already been declared) or in dwn mkt's [further unfavorable and roc will be increasing against their last press release}....

    Good Afternoon....
GAB has returned to a "BUY" signal. Those investors that have been sitting on the sidelines can now add to their holdings [dollar cost averaging cycle] if they so wish to [IMHO]....

    Good Evening....
Let us agree to disagree [no offense intended]....
"IF" a cef pays "over" the nav requirement [their current distribution policy] and the NAV is "collapsing" with the distribution [52 wk period], then the cef is not [IMHO] a good cef to hold for the "long term" [having too many shares when other cef's are performing better] . What we look for is a cef paying a current distribution [against their current policy] and "if" the nav at the end of year has risen "above" the yearly policy, then a extra distribution may be in order. Some cef's are paying a extra dividend or distribution at the end of the year but most have a continual nav up path over the long term [nav increased in a 52 wk period]....
I have followed GAB since the 1990's and GAB has been a very good hold since then [sold it and rebought it during 2008/2009 crisis]. However, always howevers [as stated earlier] they now have different management team [not Gabelli] and therefore we now have a unknown for down mkt's [since the management change]. Currently GAB is not performing since their RO [rights offering] and most of us follow the "managers" and not the cef [in general]. Many years ago a lot of us held a cef GHS [when Morningstar had a cef biweekly report (issued to our mailboxes)] and we were receiving 15%/yr and a steady growth of their nav year on year [up and down mkts]. Unfortunately for us the GHS manager left and the cef dissolved [to our dismay]....
Bottom line: I will take the normal distribution of any cef [that we can track properly] and see continued growth year to year [IMHO]....
Different strokes for different folks [investors]....

    Good Afternoon....
Press release is for $.15/Qtr with x-div 3/16 and payable 3/23. However, always howevers, the $.15 is more than what should be declared. Since the $.15 represents [.15 x 4 qtrs.] a 6.00 nav. The new mgr's [Gabelli no longer running the fund] are betting that they can make up the difference before the end of the year. Keep in mind that the 4th Qtr is a "adjustment" Qtr where the last qtr.'s payment is based on the 10% distribution policy [must adjust for the previous 3 qtr.'s distributions (normally a extra div based on good mkt performance)]. We are now evaluating how well the new mgr's "perform" [not] in a down mkt....
Looking at my current data, GAB is currently performing very negatively against the many other cef's that I monitor [bottom of the list]. I currently show a report card grade of "34" [against 100 as the highest rating] with a neutral "5" star rating [10 is the highest]. GAB still shows a negative Rf [risk factor]....
Bottom line: still a hold for current portfolio's but definitely not a further buy [IMHO] for any current dollar cost averaging....

    GAB soft for awhile

    Good Morning egnal41....
We are in a very "volatile" mkt with "too many" unknowns. We may miss the very bottom but a wait and see continues to be appropriate [IMHO]. Mu current data shows a continued decline in nav [wk to wk] for GAB and thus a wait should continue to be appropriate. Keep in mind that Gabelli no longer is the manager of this particular fund and it now has a few different managers and they have to be evaluated for up/down mkt's....
I would continue to wait for any dollar cost averaging [IMHO]....
    Have a "GREAT: week....
