    My fat finger AMD trade

    buylow; Global X Funds, AND yields 1.47%

    The Global X FTSE Andean 40 ETF ( AND | F-21 ) is down 10.03 percent year-to-date.

    AND tracks a market-cap-weighted index of firms in Colombia, Peru and Chile, focusing in a region that’s known for being a major exporter of industrial metals.

    That regional focus is the reason why AND allocates heavily to basic materials, which represent 17 percent of the portfolio. Still, the fund’s largest sector exposure is financials, at roughly 27 percent.

    The fund is relatively expensive to trade—its 60-day average trading spread is clocking in at 132 basis points. Added to an expense ratio of 0.72 percent, it costs investors more than 2 percent a year to own it. But investors have embraced the strategy, pushing AND above the $100 million mark in assets.

    Fund Summary
    The investment seeks to provide investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the FTSE Andean 40 Index ("underlying index"). The fund invests at least 80% of its total assets in the securities of the underlying index and in American Depositary Receipts ("ADRs") and Global Depositary Receipts ("GDRs") based on the securities in the underlying index. The underlying index is a free-float adjusted, modified capitalization-weighted index designed to measure performance of the 40 largest and most liquid companies in the Chile, Colombia, and Peru markets. The fund is non-diversified.

    You might want to research what stocks are in the ETF.
    Looks cheap, but I need to do more research.

    The dollar stores are better positioned to weather downturns in spending by consumers; because of the product mix that they carry versus WMT. WMT has many products, like fresh fruits and meats that people pass on because of increased prices. Food stamp entitlements to recipients have been cut by 10% and more companies have cut back their workers to 30 hours. Dollar stores have the neighborhood advantage. JMHO

    Well, we are back above the key $4.65 level which on the charts was a triple top breakout. I am of the opinion that AMD earnings will have a 33% upside. That should push AMD to $5.45, which is still undervalued. JMHO

    daejna;

    25% of the AMD float traded yesterday and 12.5% the day before. That is twice the short position in AMD. I have some thoughts about why that I expressed in another post. I have come to the conclusion that they will have really great earnings. Somebody was tipped off and the word spread.

    buylow;

    You really do not know. Did all of the shorts pick yesterday and today to cover? I do not think that they all could be that smart. It has to be something bigger then that. Buyout? News leak to the privileged? Leaked earnings report? Not sure. And to boot AMD took a small drop today. Not sure that even the day traders could have churned that many shares in one day.

    When you have 25% of a stocks float trade in one day, something has to be going on. INTC has a 1.4 billion dollar fine to be paid in the EU and it even went up today. AMD also traded more shares then the amount of stock shorted.
    I bought some more today and put a sell order in at $100.

    Which way do you think?
    When I placed my buy order on Schwab, a notice popped up and they had no stock to loan for shorting. With INTC great report, we may see that pop and close above $5.

    I have done put option sell trades on WMT in the past. Once again WMT appears to be pulling back. Looking at a weekly 5 year chart; you can clearly see a head and shoulders formation. I am looking for WMT to start a pull back. There are 3 pull back levels possible. $68, $59 and $50. I cannot say at what level it will drop; but I do believe that it will pull back and find support at some level. When WMT does find that level I will sell put
    options when I have a confirmed bottom.

    I post this so you can follow along and make comments.

    The $5.65 barrier was broke today with a run to $5.80. AMD has pulled back to the upper Bollinger Band and the $4.65 area looking to build a support base. JMHO

    Nice to see you stopped in! You just never know. I have put buy orders in on stocks at levels far below the bid / ask price and have had them filled in a flash crash. I like to put sell orders in on stocks that I own to keep the brokers from lending them out. I have a sell order on all my MU stock at $122 and AMD at $100

    When you have a margin account the broker can lend your stock out and charge a fee. Tie the stock up with a sell order and it has to be kept in the account or so I am told.
