  • Saw three different deals mentioned. Richards is a very large private ad company. Who knows what Hipcricket could be with someone who actually knew what they were doing running the company.

    Why won't someone buy Hipcricket?

Who do you think was able to get Ivan thrown out? I don't think it was the board so it was probably some #$%$ off shareholders. At least that is what I would guess. I know a few companies that would certainly look at doing exactly what you are talking about.

  • For years we have seen comps of companies in this space going for over 10X revenues and yet here we sell at 1X ttm revenue. You would think it would be a no brainer for someone to offer 3X at a minimum and there is always a chance prior management turned down these types of offers. If you really look at these other companies they really were no different than Hipcricket in terms of revenues and losses except they were private companies. As private companies they raised tens of millions through VCs who like to get paid. But here is where I think I think the main difference is. These VCs have tremendous contacts and can make deals happen whether the company wants to or not. Plus you never know what other types of dealings are going on behind the scenes. You look at companies like Jumptap and MoPub. Almost identical to where Hiprcricket is and yet they sold for many times our current market cap. I really think the lack of a VC beginning hurt chances of being taken out. Even strategic advisors don't have the pull we need. Of course it certainly helps if management wants to sell and my feeling was Ivan was not selling his baby. If I was Todd Wilson and had these latest options I would be putting it on Craigs list and start the bidding.

    Twitter buys Namo Media $50M

Rant away. Anyone who has owned this stock longer than 5 minutes should rant. I will say it is encouraging to see that in what historically been their slowest quarter they put up decent numbers. I really think they will do over 25% growth for the year and be around $40M in sales. Of course they have never actually been able to accomplish what any of us thought they should.

  • Another mobile ad company with basically no revenues and 8 people gets bought for $50M. We obviously have not hired the right people to sell the company or the people who were previously in charge wouldn't allow it?

  • Perfect Audience which was formed in 2012 and was hoping to get to several million in revenues this year. My guess is with HIPP having 25% growth in the first quarter which is $7.5M they will do around $40M. At .20 and 150M shares that gives us a market cap of $30M. Granted this is the way its been but even 3X revenues would get a buy out over .75. Someone please put a 4-sale sign out front.

Marin buys ad software firm for $22.8M

Marin Software (MRIN) has bought Perfect Audience, a developer of software for running targeted ad campaigns on popular social/display platforms, for $22.8M ($5.4M in cash, the rest in stock).

  • This is from the May Investor presentation on the Hipcricket site. The 21 patents in device detection and mobile rendering will someday play out. You have yet to see any of the big companies go after each other in this space. It will happen. Happy Memorial Day.

  • Another deal in the space. In the article they mentioned how one large company bought one of these smaller ones because when they installed their search technology into their website it improved conversion. I bet this is another few hundred million deal and Adtech is probably smaller and never made a dime.

Management has to do one of two things in order to break the typical CC drop. Either they have to let us know how well the current quarter is going and it is typically the weakest or they need to tell us they are considering strategic alternatives for the benefit of shareholders.

Seems like they are going to be showcasing the company over the next month and if the first quarter is a strong as many here believe the timing couldn't be better.
