The rival drug was JNJs Procrit. It happened last decade. It has nothing to do with Omontys. JNJ was playing a similar game with Amgen. To learn more, read the book "Blood Feud".
Give the guy a break. He came from Morgan Stanley to Amgen. He no way of knowing that he is getting paid way too much!
Genentech doesn't exist anymore as an independent entity. It is a division of Roche.
Only Novartis and Roche are big enough to buy Amgen. 90 billion is a big bite to chew even for them. It would have to be a mostly stock deal, IMO. So we'll see. I'm skeptical.
I've been through the previous splits so I know where you're coming from. I just don't think it'll happen this time. Attracting individual investors isn't that important to big corporations and Wall Street. JMHO! In any event, Apple and Google showed that you don't have to split to attract investors. Sure, some old guys like us remember that you needed a round lot to get a good price on a market order. But you can buy any number you want on Scottrade electronically and get it filled at a good price. If there is a split, it'll be decided at the BOD meeting in April and then you can laugh all you want!
Stock splits are no longer in fashion on Wall Street.
Judging by the drop in the stock price, today's business strategy meeting wasn't too well received. I enjoyed Jonathon Peacock ringing the bell at the NASDAQ yesterday, though.
The rest of the Sharer discont on the stock price should start unwinding with today's announcement. Countdown to December 31!
Amgen won't buy AFFY because if they did, they'd have to sell Omontys to someone else so it would just be a dumb purchase from a competition standpoint. Takeda will probably buy AFFY rather than let Baxter get it. Think it through before posting next time.
The management at Amgen has always favored the affordable care act. They were able to extract important concessions concerning biosimilars for their support. Also, more people with insurance means more customers for Amgen's high priced products.
Don't worry, Amgen know how not to get "hurn".
"First, Epogen is Amgen's only EPO. Aranesp is an ESA, not an EPO."
Goldie, you are splitting hairs. Aranesp is more EPO than Omontys is, just a glycoengineered EPO.
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
Amgen was last at 42 in 2008. You must mean 49 last fall.
Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
Istanbul
A telling quote from the Amgen press release:
"George's vision and values are as alive today at Amgen as they were when he led the Company," said Kevin Sharer, Chairman and CEO of Amgen. "Bob Bradway, our next CEO, and I both share George's commitment to patients and conviction that being science-based is the best foundation for innovation in biotechnology."
If only any of this BS from KS was true.
Farewell George where ever you are.
Mr. Ed used to live around here, I'm told.
Your knowledge of history is wrong. Amgen has never split below 88.
Good answer. Yes, it would be obviously anticompetitive.
Or is it from the other end of a very large horse?
It's up to the company to make the announcement. The FDA just has to deliver the news to the company by the PDUFA date which in this case is tomorrow. The company may have the news already.
