The current financial crisis has resulted in the demise of scores of banks across the country, and the toll is expected to climb over the course of the next two years.

While hundreds of banks may eventually fall, the tally -- so far -- is nowhere near the Savings & Loan debacle that stre

tched from the early 1980s into the mid-1990s. FDIC records show that 2,900 institutions failed during that time.
