10 Coolest Four-Wheel Steering Cars

Yesterday we showed you how the four wheel steering system works in several of the new Porsche 911 variants. It got us thinking how the technology has evolved through the years. The movement of the rear axle, rather than turn the wheels themselves is just the latest development, but there have been about fifty different vehicles with some type of four wheel steering throughout the years. Here are ten of our favorites:

Nissan Skyline GT-R

The R34 Skyline had high and low speed four wheel steering. At low speeds the rear wheels turned opposite the front wheels for a tighter turning radius. At high speeds they turned in the same direction for smoother turns.

Subaru SVX

Subaru SVX

High-speed only- available on the Japanese market- CDX trim.

GMC Sierra 1500 Denali

GMC Sierra

GMC’s version was called Quadrasteer, and was available on select models of the 2002-2005 Sierra and 2002-2004 Sierra Denali. It was high and low speed- and you can see the low speed functionality in the above image.

Dodge Stealth/Mitsubishi 3000GT

Mitsubishi 3000GT

Sold as the Mitsibushi GTO in Japan, this system was mechanical and worked at high and low speeds. Also available on the Dodge Stealth.

Infinit Q45

The four-wheel steering system in the Q45 dates back to 1989, but it was not alone. It would also be offered in the 1993-1994 J30t, and is offered in the M (Q70), G37 (Q40) and FX crossover (QX70). For all of those current models, it is sold as an option on the Sport versions.

Mazda 929

Standard on all 1992-1995 models, this system was computerized (as opposed to the mechanical type in the Mitsubishi), and worked at high and low speeds.
