Being organized goes hand in hand with being prepared for just about anything. Spring is around the corner and that means the invitations to showers, barbecues and housewarming parties will start rolling in. Be prepared for any last minute event this year by designating an area in your home such for gift wrap and emergency gifts. I use a dresser drawer in my guest room, but you could use part of a closet or even an under-bed box if you don’t have an empty drawer. If you can’t imagine what you’d keep in your new gift department, here’s a list of supplies, plus 13 easy gift ideas to keep you ready all year long, most of which you can find inexpensively.

  1. Gift bags in assorted sizes and themes
  2. Tissue paper
  3. A selection of assorted cards and envelopes for various occasions, including blanks
  4. A roll of clear tape
  5. A pair of scissors
  6. A spool of white ribbon

Gifts to keep handy:

  1.  A few packs of fun, pretty beverage napkins
  2. A scented jar candle (or two)
  3. A box of pretty note cards with envelopes
  4. A set of four cloth napkins or placemats
  5. A set of cheese knives
  6. A cheese board
  7. A cute coffee mug
  8. A wine accessory, such as a Corksicle chiller, or a decorative wine bottle stopper
  9. A cookbook
  10. A set of bamboo cooking utensils
  11. A tabletop photo frame
  12. A set of whimsical refrigerator magnets
  13. Two packs of newborn onesies (one for a girl, one for a boy)
  14. A cute baby bath towel (in yellow or green)
  15. A baby book or small photo album

I find it a wonderful comfort to know I can always come up with a nice gift at the last moment without ever leaving the house.
