As we have discussed here previously, the most recent Fast and Furious films have regained the magic of the original. Between the first installment and Fast and Furious 6, there were a couple of sub-par films, including 2 Fast 2 Furious, which featured Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and a pair of customized Mitsubishis. One was an Eclipse Sypder (which kind of spelled the beginning of the end for the Eclipse), and a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer. The latter is available now on eBay for $40K.
This Lancer is being sold by Desert Autosport, via eBay Motors and looks the part of the movie car, complete with the aftermarket front fascia and headlights, blue under-glow, and the fixed rear wing. There are only 844 miles on the odometer and, as the seller describes, this Lancer is the one driven by the main character, though we’re a little suspect of that last part.
Upon closer inspection we see that the driver’s side doorframe has a label that says “2nd Unit Principal,” which suggests that this was the vehicle used for B-roll (a cinema term for any footage that does not require the actors). Also, the car was fitted with “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “Driver: Paul Walker” graphics, suggesting that this vehicle may have likely done some promotional duty following filming.
Here is a promotional film showing the development of the movie car way back in 2003:
So, is it worth the $39,995 selling price? If you think so, you only have 10 more days to pull the trigger on purchasing this key element from the low point in the Fast/Furious franchise!
