SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- The FBI says agents have arrested two contractors accused of bribing a Puerto Rico mayor to buy municipal property for commercial development.
FBI spokesman Harry Rodriguez says the unidentified men were charged Thursday and face up to 10 years in prison.
The arrests come a day after the longtime mayor of the northern coastal town of Barceloneta was arrested and accused of receiving $55,000 in bribes. Sol Luis Fontanez was running for re-election this year and has served nearly 24 years as mayor.
The U.S. Attorney's Office accused Fontanez of initially demanding a total of $190,000.
