2GB DRAM Spot Price Has Fallen in the Past Week

DRAM and Flash NAND Spot Prices: Both Took a Fall Last Week

DRAM 2GB spot prices fell month-over-month

In this series, we’ll explore the trend in prices of memory products—DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) and NAND (negative-AND). We’ll analyze the expected performance of these products and related companies in 2016.

In the table below, we see that the spot prices of 2GB (gigabyte) DDR3 (double data rate 3) DRAM fell 1.9% from $1.13 on January 15, 2016, to $1.11 on January 22, 2016. The spot price of 4GB DDR 3 DRAM increased 1.1%, from $1.88 to $1.90 in the same period. 2GB DRAM prices fell 1.1% in the previous week as well.

32GB NAND spot prices fell marginally in January 2016

In the above table, we see that the spot prices of 32GB NAND fell 0.2% from $2.17 on January 15, 2016, to $2.16. The spot price of 64GB NAND fell 0.5% from $2.66 to $2.65 in the same period. Major companies in the DRAM space include Samsung (SSNLF), Micron Technology (MU), SK Hynix (HXSCF), Nanya Technology, and Winbond Electronics.

To get exposure to Micron Technology, you can invest in the iShares PHLX Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) and the Market Vectors Semiconductor ETF (SMH). Micron Technology constitutes 3.7% of SOXX and 3.2% of SMH.
