4 charged in shoplifting ring at Walmart store

2 employees, 2 others charged with shoplifting $7K-plus from suburban Buffalo Walmart store

CLARENCE, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say they've charged two Walmart employees and two other people with being part of a shoplifting ring that stole more than $7,000 in merchandise from a suburban Buffalo store.

State police say managers at the Walmart Supercenter in the town of Clarence contacted troopers on Christmas Eve to report that they had spent the past month gathering evidence of several employees involved in an ongoing shoplifting scheme.

Troopers say the suspects allowed their accomplices to go through the check-out lines and leave the store without paying. Police say the suspects also were activating gift cards, keeping them, and giving the customers cards that weren't activated.

The two Walmart employees arrested are a 22-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman. The others are two women, ages 19 and 21. All four are from Buffalo.
