Each of the three U.S. financial indices finished market action today in the green. Here the top performing stocks in terms of percentage increases and return to shareholders today:

Big gainers:

Idenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. : Leerink raised its price target for Idenix citing the company’s pipeline progress and recent acquisitions in the Hepatitis C space. The firm keeps an Outperform rating on the stock. Adam Feuerstein tweeted he chatted with A bull in Hep C space says Merck  could buy Idenix for $3 billion, tweeted Adam Feuerstein. The shares closed at $12.00, up $2.34, or 24.22 percent. Their 52-week trading range has been $2.67 to $10.39.

IPG Photonics Corporation : DA Davidson says buy IPG Photonics on weakness. IPG report China revenues in a sequential 20 percent decline. DA Davidson’s reports December laser bookings were “decent”, and IPG’s comment probably caused an overreaction. The firm still has IPG as its 2012 best pick. The shares closed at $47.43, up $8.01, or 20.32 percent. Their 52-week trading range has been $31.30 to $78.59.

Charles River Laboratories : Could Charles River Laboratories be in play? Management is keeping silent and shares flood up 22.8 percent. The shares closed at $32.47, up $4.79, or 17.3 percent. Their 52-week trading range has been $25.52 to $42.84.

Cirrus Logic, Inc. : NPD’ data on market share and a positive pre-announcement from Cirrus Logic has iPhone chip suppliers outperforming the NASDAQ. The shares closed at $19.64, up $2.67, or 15.73 percent. Their 52-week trading range has been $12.52 to $25.48.

Cobalt International Energy, Inc. : Shares of Cobalt International Energy shoot straight up after Morgan Stanley doubles Cobalt International Energy and ups the price target from $19 to $38 with potential upside of 103% and shares blast off. The shares closed at $18.05, up $2.19, or 13.81% percent. Their 52-week trading range has been $6.30 to $17.22.
