$78 Million Projected Economic Impact From 2013 PGA Championship on Greater Rochester, N.Y. Region

Highlights Include the Creation of 1,127 Direct and Indirect Jobs

ROCHESTER, NY--(Marketwire - April 01, 2013) -  Greater Rochester Enterprise (GRE) -- an economic development organization focused on promoting the Greater Rochester, N.Y., region as a competitive place for business location and growth -- is projecting a $78 million economic impact on the region from the 2013 PGA Championship as a result of a recent economic impact study. The 95th PGA Championship is scheduled to take place Aug. 5-11 at Oak Hill Country Club. The study also predicts that 1,127 temporary, full- and part-time jobs will be added to support the influx of golf enthusiasts. State and local fiscal revenue is estimated to increase by $7,304,447 from sales, income and other taxes.

According to the study, sporting event production, construction, service industries and real estate are expected to receive the biggest boost from the tournament.

In addition to hosting the 95th PGA Championship, Oak Hill has held the Ryder Cup, the Senior PGA Championship, the U.S. Open Championship, the U.S. Amateur Championship, and the U.S. Senior Open Championship. Locust Hill Country Club, also located in Rochester, N.Y., annually hosts the LPGA Championship. A recent report by the N.Y. Golf Task Force estimates the size of the state's direct golf economy at nearly $3 billion per year.
