LAKEWOOD, N.Y., Sept. 17, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Luck favors the prepared, said Louis Pasteur, the brilliant mind behind the pasteurization process. As the developer of many known vaccines today, he thoroughly lived up to his quote by preventing many a sickness early on. And so proves author George Sherwood with his new survival guide called Survival and The Hobo Connection, released by Xlibris, by presenting practical tips on how to live without the comforts of modern technology.

The primary purpose of this book is to show all of those who are concerned with their safety and welfare during times of weather and other emergencies that they can afford to be prepared regardless of their economic status. Whether unemployed, elderly on fixed income or living below the poverty line, it makes no difference.

At last, there exists a book providing much-needed information on affordable survival and disaster preparation. With invaluable tips on making your equipment and fuel, collecting and storing food, water purification, and emergency medical procedures all described in detail, having this book is like having a mentor at your immediate call.

Survival and The Hobo Connection is a practical must-have for every traveler, camper, military, and backpacking tourist. As well, in preparation for any disaster or calamity, anticipated or otherwise, this book is easily a household necessity. For more information, log on to www.Xlibris.com.

About the Author

At the age of thirteen, George Sherwood found himself in a desperate situation. After having lived in the woods for just over two weeks' time with no food and only a poorly made shelter, Mr. Sherwood made a promise to himself. He vowed that this "would never ever happen to him again without knowing what to do and how to do it for complete and healthy survival." At that time, the author became an intense student of survival and has remained so for more than fifty years. He has lived under survival conditions on four separate occasions and has lived and traveled throughout the United States, Canada, the Middle East, and Northern Africa. Mr. Sherwood has been a survival instructor for over seventeen years, including three years at North Idaho College in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. He now resides in Western New York.
