NEW HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 4, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Siegel's book, How Food Works/How Diets Work, is conversationally written on topics related to food. She takes apart a dinner, such as hamburgers, rolls, salad, and ice cream and explains how the meat protein is used, how the rolls relate to sugar, what contribution the salad makes. Ice cream becomes protein, lactose, calcium and water. The chapters include how these calories function in the body for energy and building blocks. And since we are not all the same, we don't all use calories in the same way. Fiber, water intake, alcohol, vitamins/minerals are discussed.

The author is always present, commenting on the science, making this a highly readable book with useful, reliable, sometimes surprising information. Recipes, simple and delicious, are included. Traditional diets and diet construction for individual use are discussed. Guidelines and forms are provided that allow the reader to construct their own weight loss program using favorite foods. One should not have to guess at good nutrition or healthy techniques for losing weight or, hardest of all food behaviors, keeping lost weight off.

This book will be featured in the California Library Association Book Exhibit in Pasadena, CA, on October 31-November 1, 2009. For more information, log on to www.Xlibris.com.
