Amazon and Disney Deal Allows the U.K. to Get “Lost”

In a programming coup, Amazon’s streaming video service, LoveFilm, has agreed with Disney UK to launch ABC TV on demand in the United Kingdom.

The deal will enable LoveFilm to provide its members access to some of the most famous television series created in America. Members with streaming packages will be able to access series such as “Castle,” starring Nathan Fillion, and “Lost,” hailed by critics as one of the top series of all time. Other top notch content covered includes “Desperate Housewives,” comedy “Happy Endings,” medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Ghost Whisperer.”

LoveFilm is Europe’s leading TV and movie subscription service. This deal comes in the wake of content deals with BBC and ITV.

LoveFilm is in an escalating battle with Netflix . Just last week, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced a service that costs £ 5.99 a month in the U.K. and € 6.99 in Ireland for unlimited video viewing. It offers films and television programming such as ‘Top Gear’ and ‘90210’ from content providers such as  Disney   ,  BBC ,  CBS   and Miramax.
