NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) -- Ameriana Bancorp on Monday lowered its quarterly dividend to a penny from 4 cents
President and CEO Jerome Gassen said the bank holding company cut its dividend to save money and preserve its balance sheet during a difficult time for business.
Ameriana plans to increase its dividend when the economy improves and business conditions get better, Gassen said.
The dividend is payable Oct. 2 to shareholders of record Sept. 11.
Ameriana shares were unchanged at $3.50 in morning trading.
