Arkansas Best CEO to retire

Arkansas Best Chief Executive Robert A. Davidson will retire, to be replaced by Finance Chief

  • On 9:08 am EDT, Wednesday October 21, 2009

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) -- Arkansas Best Corp., a trucking holding company, said Wednesday its CEO Robert A. Davidson will retire, effective Dec. 31.

Davidson, 61, will be replaced by Judy R. McReynolds, 47, current senior vice president, CFO and Treasurer.

Davidson has been CEO since 2006. Before that he was president of ABF Freight System Inc., the company's largest subsidiary, and ABF's vice president of marketing, among other titles. He has been with the company nearly 38 years.

The news came as the Fort Smith, Ark., company reported a third-quarter loss, hurt by falling freight levels and tough pricing competition in the trucking business.
