CLEVELAND, Dec. 4, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Associated Estates Realty Corporation (NYSE:AEC - News) (Nasdaq:AEC) announced today that, through its community involvement program, AECares, the Company's efforts to support troops serving overseas was a huge success.

As previously announced, AEC ``adopted'' a battalion of troops currently deployed to Afghanistan. The Company held a month-long drive to collect supplies and raise funds for our soldiers. Over 120 boxes weighing a total of approximately 3,000 pounds were sent to the troops containing items ranging from clothing and hygiene supplies to snacks and CDs/DVDs for our troops.

``The outpouring of support from both employees and residents across our 55+ offices and apartment communities was amazing.
