SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - 10/20/09) - BLADE Network Technologies Inc. (BLADE), the trusted leader in data center networking, and SGI (NASDAQ:SGI - News) announced today that the two companies are teaming up to serve the rapidly growing demand for 10 Gigabit Ethernet in high-density container and data center environments.
BLADE is one of the top providers of 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches, according to Dell'Oro Group's Q209 Ethernet Switch Quarterly Report. BLADE's RackSwitch 1/10G products combine best-in-class hardware design and power consumption with server-specific features, ultra low latency and full interoperability with existing network environments. SGI will integrate BLADE's RackSwitch G8000 1/10G Ethernet switch, RackSwitch G81000 10G low-latency switch and RackSwitch G8124 10G SFP+ switch with its CloudRack(TM) C2 and CloudRack(TM) X2 unified containers for cloud-ready cluster computing. SGI will also resell BLADE's RackSwitch products with its Half Depth and Standard Depth Rack-Mount servers for HPC-class data center computing. BLADE's worldwide team of Sales Network Architects will provide data center networking expertise to support SGI's sales team.
"SGI customers in Internet/cloud computing, financial services, digital media and other segments increasingly want to upgrade their networks to 10 Gigabit Ethernet," said Bill Mannel, vice president of Product Management at SGI. "The BLADE RackSwitch family combines the industry's lowest pricing, at under $500 per 10G port, with top performance and administrator-friendly management, which enables our customers to realize the lowest total cost of ownership for their data center infrastructures. With technology partners, such as BLADE Network Technologies, SGI is able to offer flexible, scalable, non-proprietary solutions to our customers at very competitive costs."
SGI's CloudRack products deliver extreme cluster densities, with up to 912 cores per cabinet, and breakthrough energy efficiency in a unified cabinet design where power and cooling is centralized at the rack level. BLADE RackSwitch products are specifically designed to equip high-density server environments, such as SGI's CloudRack, with sub-microsecond latency, uplink failure detection for sub-second server fail-over, server-friendly airflow and 15" deep packaging -- all with power consumption less than two standard light bulbs.
"The world's largest enterprises are deploying our 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches for ultra-fast, cloud-ready networks that enable them to reduce their total cost of ownership while increasing capacity," said Dan Tuchler, vice president of Strategy and Product Management, BLADE Network Technologies. "Our RackSwitch products are a perfect fit for the high-density container and data center environments where SGI's products excel."
