BLUE BELL, Pa., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- C&D Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: CHP - News), a leading North American producer and marketer of batteries, battery systems and integrated standby power systems, today announced the release of the new DYNASTY and LIBERTY valve-regulated lead acid batteries for uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) and telecommunications energy back-up systems manufactured in C&D Technologies' Shanghai, China plant.
These new product lines represent the first returns on the investment made in a dedicated Asian Engineering Team established in the first quarter of this year in Shanghai, China. The design team has brought these new products to market in less than six months in the rapidly evolving Asian market. Additional new product introductions will follow in the coming months with C&D Technologies leveraging technology developed in North America into designs specific for local market requirements.
The market for industrial batteries in Asia, and China in particular, continues to grow rapidly fueled by the ongoing investment in infrastructure for telecommunications, data centers as well as energy generation and transmission. C&D Technologies will focus on these expanding market opportunities by continuing to develop new products and sales channels. These new batteries will be manufactured in C&D's state-of-the-art battery manufacturing plant which officially opened in early 2008 in the Pudong region west of Shanghai. The plant, which includes world-class environmental systems, is one of the largest industrial battery manufacturing plants in the world and will ensure leadership in environmental compliance as the government looks to improve emissions standards throughout the lead industry in China.
The new DYNASTY valve-regulated lead acid batteries for uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) will range from 100 to 630 watts per cell in case sizes from Group U1 to Group 99. The new LIBERTY valve-regulated lead acid batteries for telecommunications energy backup systems will range from 28 to 100 Ah in case sizes from Group U1 to Group 29. These performance levels represent some of the highest power and energy densities achieved in valve-regulated lead acid battery design.
"The introduction of C&D's newest products for Asia, the DYNASTY and LIBERTY represent an important and significant step forward in C&D's international growth strategy. The time to market is unparalleled in the industry and the competitive advantages will allow our customer partners to be more successful," said Dr. Jeffrey Graves, President and CEO of C&D Technologies. Dr. Graves continued, "We will follow this launch with many new products and channel partners that will allow us to more fully participate across the Asian markets in the future."
C&D will begin taking orders for DYNASTY and LIBERTY in October with the first shipments expected in November, 2009.
