CARPINTERIA, Calif. (AP) -- CKE Restaurants Inc. said Tuesday that it opened its first Hardee's restaurant in Pakistan.

The restaurant operator said it has a solid base of Hardee's restaurants in the Middle East and strong brand awareness in the region, with Pakistan expanding its global footprint further.

The company, which also runs Carl's Jr. restaurants, said the Hardee's in Lahore, Pakistan is one of at least 25 that will open in the country in the next five years.

The franchised restaurant is run by MDS Foods Private Ltd., a unit of Pakistan home appliance and automotive company Super Asia Group.

Hardee's currently has 205 restaurants in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Pakistan.

Shares of CKE Restaurants shed 3 cents to $8.59 in afternoon trading.
