VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 5, 2009) - Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP - News) today announced that it expects its fourth quarter results to include a pre-tax impairment charge of approximately $100 million ($74 million net of tax) related to its long-lived assets and other assets. The significant majority of the charge relates to the Company's non-core panels business, specifically the PolarBoard and Tackama operations which were indefinitely idled during 2008. The impairment charge also includes a further $10 million write-down in the fair value of its investments in asset-backed commercial paper.
This impairment charge is based on current estimates and is subject to change. Canfor's fourth quarter and fiscal 2008 results are expected to be released on February 19, 2009.
