Chairman of Kirby Corp. to retire next April
Barge operator Kirby Corp. says chairman of 10 years will retire next April

HOUSTON (AP) -- Kirby Corp., which operates inland barges and towing ships for the energy and petrochemicals industries, said Monday that Chairman C. Berdon Lawrence will retire at the company's annual shareholder meeting next April.
Lawrence, who has served as chairman since 1999, will act as a consultant and remain on the board.
Lawrence was founder and former president of Hollywood Marine Inc., a barge company that Kirby bought in 1999.
Shares of Houston-based Kirby fell 4 cents to close earlier at $35.45.
