NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Chilton Investment Company, a leading manager of hedge funds and managed accounts, today announced that effective January 1, 2010, Jim Steinthal has been named General Counsel and has joined Chilton’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors. He will succeed Norm Champ, who is leaving the firm at year-end to join the Securities and Exchange Commission as Associate Regional Director for Examinations in its New York Regional Office.

Mr. Steinthal, 44, currently serves as Managing Director and General Counsel of Chilton’s various hedge funds. Prior to joining the firm in 2000, he was associated with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell for eight years. From 1991 to 1992, Mr. Steinthal clerked for the Honorable Constance Baker Motley of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Steinthal has a B.A. in Economics from Georgetown University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Mr. Champ has served as General Counsel of Chilton for the last ten years and also has served as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and its Board of Directors. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Managed Funds Association, he has been a leading authority in the hedge fund industry on a wide range of regulatory and legal issues. Acting on the vision of the firm’s Chairman, Richard L. Chilton, Jr., Norm was instrumental in registering Chilton Investment Company with the SEC in 2004, understanding the need for increased transparency in the industry.

“We are both pleased and proud that Norm Champ will be taking on this important role in the SEC’s New York Regional Office at such a critical time in the evolution of the hedge fund industry,” said Richard L. Chilton, Jr. “From our initial decision to register with the SEC, our firm has taken a leading role creating a culture of transparency, cooperation, and education with regulatory authorities. Norm has effectively built on those tenets and expanded these important relationships. During his ten years as our General Counsel, Norm has played an instrumental role in reinforcing a culture of professionalism, integrity and openness at our firm. He has also been a valued partner and mentor.”

Mr. Chilton continued, “We are fortunate to have been able to promote a worthy successor to Norm from within our organization. In his nine years at the firm, Jim Steinthal has been Norm’s partner in building the legal department and providing outstanding counsel to our staff. He exemplifies the characteristics that our firm values most highly, such as an unwavering commitment to the best interests of our investors, loyalty and a keen intellect.”
