Citigroup, Nokia, Capital 1, Safeway, McClatchy are among big market movers Thursday

NEW YORK (AP) -- The following stocks were among those that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange:

NYSE:

Citigroup Inc., down 25 cents at $4.75

The bank reported that its disappointing third-quarter results were weighed down by billions of dollars in failed loans.

Nokia Corp., down $1.71 at $13.68

The mobile phone maker posted a third-quarter loss on a drop in sales and a charge for the fallen value of its network equipment unit.

Safeway Stores Inc., up $1.40 at $22.83

The company's profit fell 35 percent because of lower sales and price-cutting to draw customers back to its supermarkets.

Capital One Financial Corp., down $1.23 at $38.12

The company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that its card default and delinquency rates have worsened.

McClatchy Co., down 52 cents at $3.50

Cost cutting and a favorable tax adjustment lifted profits for the newspaper publisher, even as advertising revenue took a dive.

NASDAQ:

PetSmart Inc., up $1.93 at $25.37

The pet products retailer raised its third-quarter profit outlook because of better profit margins and lower-than-expected expenses.

Acorda Therapeutics Inc., up $7.91 at $24.65

A Food and Drug Administration panel released a positive review of Acorda's drug candidate Fampridine-SR.

Manhattan Associates Inc., up $2.96 at $23.84

An analyst said the Atlanta-based software maker seems to have turned the corner after a "miserable" first half.
