Community Health Fair Launches Specialized Programs for Seniors in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(MARKET WIRE)--Nov 18, 2008 -- Seniors in Scottsdale will get a free preview of the specialized programs that gerontologists at ActiveRx have designed to significantly reduce falls, increase independence and improve the health and quality of life of older adults.

The "L.I.F.E." (Lasting Independence & Feeling Extraordinary) programs will be introduced Thursday, November 20th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Scottsdale Community Health Fair hosted by ActiveRx Physical Therapy & Wellness Center: 7353 N. Via Paseo Del Sur, Suite 480, in Scottsdale.

These specialized senior programs are based on over a decade of scientific research conducted by renowned research scientist, Dr. Wayne Phillips, PhD, FACSM in collaboration with Stanford University School of Medicine and Arizona State University's Exercise and Wellness Department. In addition to Fall Prevention, the L.I.F.E. programs have been shown to significantly improve health conditions such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar levels, strength, and physical function.

"In the US, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, persons aged 65 years and older have the highest incidence of cardiovascular disease -- account for 7 million cases of type 2 diabetes, and sustain 250,000 hip fractures per year -- with falls being the leading cause of injuries."

L.I.F.E. Programs Covered by Medicare

"Our programs have been carefully designed to adhere to Medicare guidelines, which allows them to be covered by Medicare and most other insurance plans, so long as there is a medical need," added Essex.

The Scottsdale community health fair is FREE of charge and will include a variety of health screenings, physical function testing, program demonstrations, educational information, and an opportunity for those who attend to meet with some of the top doctors, health practitioners, and researchers in the state, who specialize in Successful Aging. Healthy food and beverage will also be provided.

Those who attend are only asked to bring a non-perishable canned food item to support Matt Million's of KNIX-FM, Can Crusade to gather 1 million cans of food for the 880,000 Arizonans who live at the poverty level.
