New Adult Literacy Blog Hosting Book Giveaway Contest
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On October 6th, 2009, the House of Representatives declared October 18-23 Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, encouraging people across the United States to support programs to assist those in need of adult education and family literacy programs. Adult education programs provide classes and tutoring in basic literacy, ESL, and GED preparation.
DC LEARNs and the Adult Literacy Resource Center (ALRC) of the D.C. Public Library are honoring Adult Education and Family Literacy Week by formally announcing the launch of a redesigned DC LEARNs Web site, which now includes a new D.C. adult literacy blog. The blog will serve as a vehicle to enhance public awareness of the important role of adult education—and the connections between adult literacy and other issues, such as public health, housing, and safety.
DC LEARNs and the ALRC are encouraging people to visit the blog during Adult Education and Family Literacy Week with a book giveaway contest on the blog. The books, which are all by and/or about adult learners, include: The Teacher Who Couldn't Read by John Corcoran, Life is So Good by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman, Life is Not a Fairytale by Fantasia Barrino, and Push, a novel by Sapphire.
