Destination Maternity August same-store sales down partly on lower inventory, recession

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Destination Maternity Corp. said Thursday that sales at stores open at least a year fell 10.6 percent partly on lower inventory and the recession.

The maternity apparel retailer said it had less spring and summer inventory compared with a year ago, so it had much lower clearance sales results.

Total monthly sales dipped 2.1 percent to $43.8 million from a year earlier.

At the end of August, the company ran 726 stores, 357 leased department locations and 1,083 total retail locations.

Shares of Destination Maternity dropped 54 cents to $19.62 in morning trading.
