Investors plowed more than $200 million into the SPDR Gold Shares (NYSEArca:GLD - News) physical bullion ETF on Friday, a day after pouring $678 million into the popular physical bullion ETF yesterday. Stocks were mixed amid continued anxiety about Europe and new talk in the United States about the U.S. budget deficit.
Overall, net inflows totaled $143.8 million, and total assets fell to almost $1.057 trillion from just over $1.058 trillion on Thursday, Nov. 17, according to data compiled by IndexUniverse.com. The inflows were offset by those asset prices that fell on Friday.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 25.43 points, ending at 1,796.16, as investors continued to wonder how much Europe’s debt crisis might hurt the rest of the global economy and also began to worry about renewed bickering in the United States as new debt talks got under way. The S'P 500 reflected those worries more directly, edging down 0.48 point to 1,215.65.
The Nos. 2 and 3 funds on IndexUniverse’s “Top 10 Creations” were the SPDR S'P MidCap 400 ETF (NYSEArca:MDY - News) and the Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3x ETF (NYSEArca:FAS - News), which pulled in $156.7 million and $81.8 million, respectively.
On a percentage basis, the Russell Equity Income ETF (NYSEArca:EQIN - News) had the largest creations. The fund hauled in $45.2 million, amounting to 500 percent of its assets at the beginning of Friday’s session. It ended the day with $54.2 million in assets.

Friday’s least popular fund was the Vanguard MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (NYSEArca:VWO - News). The world’s biggest developing markets ETF had outflows of $554.1 million, and ended the session with $43.3 billion in assets.
