Earnings roundup: Borders posts loss as sales fall, Big Lots profit grows as costs shrink

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Borders Group Inc. reported Tuesday that it continued to lose money in its fiscal second quarter on charges and declining sales at its bookstores.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Discount retailer Big Lots Inc. on Tuesday said its second-quarter profit rose 9 percent, beating analyst expectations, driven by lower expenses related to distribution, transportation, advertising and payroll.

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) -- Daktronics Inc. reported a slightly bigger fiscal first-quarter profit than expected Tuesday but missed sales forecasts, sending shares down in morning trading.

DALLAS (AP) -- Discount housewares chain Tuesday Morning Corp. said Tuesday its fiscal fourth-quarter loss narrowed, citing cash and inventory management improvements.
