LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - 11/10/09) - A recent study revealed that the majority of small business owners are likely to be dipping into their own pockets to keep their business afloat over the next year. Shane Krider, founder of entrepreneurial skills training company Polaris Media Group, says this could be avoided by honing one's entrepreneurial skills.
The study -- Discover's "Small Business Watch" -- surveyed 750 small business owners to find out how they're weathering the current economic storm and what they anticipate for the future.
44 percent of owners say they have experienced cash flow issues in the past 90 days, and 40 percent said that dipping into their personal assets in the coming year is "very likely." An additional 21 percent said it is "somewhat likely."
Despite the tough times they are currently experiencing, the majority of those surveyed feel that small business will lead in the U.S. economy's recovery, although they feel it will take another year to turn around. Keeping things going until then means personal sacrifice for many.
"A lot of small business owners, although they may be experts in their industry, are not adequately trained in entrepreneurial skills to weather this economic storm without taking a personal hit," said Krider. "We encourage entrepreneurs to get the training they need rather than taking out loans or financing their businesses with personal assets."
