HOUSTON (AP) -- ExpressJet Airlines, which operates regional flights under the Continental Express name, on Monday reported August traffic below the year-ago figures.

ExpressJet said paying passengers flew 737 million miles in August. It didn't provide a figure for August 2008, although at the time ExpressJet reported that passengers flew 938 million miles. The company was still operating regional flights for Delta in August 2008.

Capacity last month was 924 million available seat miles. A year ago, the company reported capacity of 1.18 billion seat miles.

ExpressJet's average occupancy on August flights operating as Continental Express was 79.8 percent. The company reported 79.5 percent a year ago.

ExpressJet shares fell 23 cents, or 7.9 percent, to close at $2.67.
