Fluor board appoints David Seaton to newly created position of chief operating officer

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Engineering and construction firm Fluor Corp. said Monday its board elected David Seaton to the newly created position of chief operating officer, effective immediately.

Seaton, 48, will oversee all five of the company's operating business groups, along with Project Operations, a unit formed earlier this year. He joined Fluor in 1984.

Most recently, Seaton served as senior group president in charge of the company's energy, chemicals, power and government group, as well as activities in China and the Middle East.

Separately, Chairman and CEO Alan Boeckmann said his direct reports will be reduced to four and will include Seaton and Chief Financial Officer D. Michael Steuert. The new alignment is intended to give Boeckmann more time to concentrate on addressing client needs and the development of new business, the company said.

Shares of Fluor fell $2.51, or 5.2 percent, to $45.10 in after-hours trading, after adding $2.61, or 5.8 percent, to close at $48.01.
