CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Keithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE: KEI - News), a world leader in advanced electrical test instruments and systems, will broadcast a free webinar titled “Understanding MIMO Channel Sounding” on Thursday, September 24, 2009. This one-hour web-based seminar will introduce the topic of MIMO channel sounding as it relates to characterizing a real-world MIMO wireless channel, which can be used in RF testing of a device by applying channel emulation. To register for this event, visit www.keithley.com/events/semconfs/webseminars.
For the RF engineer, understanding the wireless channel has become an integral part of the design and development of wireless systems. Traditional single-carrier systems have had to deal with multipath fading and inter-symbol interference, while multicarrier and MIMO systems have introduced techniques to minimize, or even benefit from, these effects. The standards organizations have introduced a variety of channel models intended to represent real-world wireless channels, and test equipment vendors have devised a variety of solutions to simulate these channel models for the purposes of testing wireless devices. However, these channel models cover only a small subset of all possible wireless channels. To increase this coverage and provide the RF engineer greater assurance that a particular design will work when deployed, channel sounding can be employed to characterize a real-world MIMO wireless channel. That can then be used for testing a device using channel emulation.
This webinar will introduce the basic concepts of the wireless communication channel, MIMO channel sounding, and channel emulation. Further, it will introduce a flexible and cost-effective RF test system that can be used for performing channel sounding, channel emulation, and functional testing of MIMO wireless devices. The webinar is recommended for MIMO wireless system and radio designers, including hardware and algorithm developers and wireless communications researchers.
Presenter Jake Sanderson is a lead RF applications engineer for Keithley Instruments. He supports MIMO applications in R&D and education, including the development of a MIMO channel sounding application. Before joining Keithley Instruments, Jake was a systems engineer with Agilent Technologies and Hewlett-Packard, developing manufacturing test solutions for the wireless semiconductor industry.
