SACREMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- GenCorp Inc., an aerospace supplier and manager of a real-estate portfolio, said Thursday it posted a $12.1 million third-quarter profit on higher sales and lower charges for future estimated environmental obligations and retirement benefit costs.
For the quarter ended Aug. 31, GenCorp's profit amounted to 20 cents per share and compared with a loss of $2.7 million, or 5 cents per share, in the third quarter of 2008.
Excluding discontinued operations, the company posted a profit of $12.6 million, or 21 cents per share, compared with a loss of $2.9 million, or 5 cents per share.
Sales rose 17 percent to $201.4 million from $172.5 million on growth in various standard missile programs and increased deliveries of Patriot Advanced Capability - including missiles and Atlas V rockets.
