Give Memories, Not Trinkets, This Christmas

ScanCafe's New Pre-Paid Gift Boxes Celebrate the True Spirit of the Holidays

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Dec 4, 2008 -- This holiday season, consumers can't afford to give gifts that aren't meaningful. That's why ScanCafe (www.scancafe.com), the leading online photo scanning and restoration service, has created a new, prepaid Gift Box. For the first time, consumers can give ScanCafe's award-winning services to anyone, even those without internet access, making sharing memories among loved ones easier than ever.

The Gift Boxes can be purchased online and sent directly to a friend or family member. The gift recipient will then be able to fill the box with treasured photos, slides and negatives to be hand-scanned and digitally restored by ScanCafe's expert photo technicians, breathing new life into the past for the special people on Santa's list.

"It's no secret that we as a nation, along with many others in the global community, are looking at a tough holiday season," said Sam Allen, CEO of ScanCafe. "In times like these, people tend to focus on the things that are most important. There's a movement away from materialistic gifts toward gifts with a higher sense of meaning. This is not a year for gifts that quickly become obsolete; it's a year for gifts, like beautifully preserved memories, that can be cherished forever."

According to a recent survey conducted by GfK Custom Research North America on behalf of ScanCafe, the average American has more than 3,000 non-digital photos stashed away in their home, and 85 percent of respondents believe it's important to be able to share those photos with their great-grandchildren. Most Americans realize that the life of their non-digital photos is finite, but more importantly, the majority have already lost important photos to the fading effects of time, household damage and general misplacement. For just pennies per image, ScanCafe can help ensure these priceless memories are preserved for future generations.

Here's how the Gift Boxes work:

-- The purchaser completes an online form at http://www.scancafe.com, specifying
    the outbound and return addresses.
-- The recipient receives an empty box from ScanCafe with full
instructions and a prepaid, pre-addressed envelope. He or she packs the box
with slides, negatives and photos, slips it into the included pre-
addressed, pre-paid envelope, and ships it back to ScanCafe by dropping it
off at the nearest UPS Store or UPS drop-box.
-- The images will be scanned and restored by hand, then returned to the
address the purchaser specifies, along with a DVD of the scanned and
    repaired images.

The gift boxes are available at a cost of $149.99. All photos are hand-scanned at 600 dpi and slides and negatives are hand-scanned at 3000 dpi -- the highest quality default resolution in the industry today -- suitable for a lifetime of sharing in photo books, slideshows, reprints and enlargements.

"This holiday season, those who give the gift of memories can rest assured their present will last forever -- long after gadgets, toys and trinkets have gathered dust and headed to the junk pile," said Allen. "Preserving a loved one's history is truly a priceless gift."
