OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - 11/05/09) - The Honourable Jim Prentice, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced that Parks Canada has partnered with the Canadian Museum of Nature to create a traveling exhibit highlighting Canada's aquatic ecosystems.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to see two of its leading organizations partner to showcase Canada's aquatic ecosystems," said Minister Prentice. "Canada is truly a maritime nation, with a rich maritime heritage. I am delighted about this great opportunity for Canadians to discover the rich and diverse aquatic ecosystems and marine heritage that we protect on behalf of the Canadian population and for the benefit of future generations."

The exhibit will feature Parks Canada stories and highlight various parks across Canada. For example, visitors will discover the life of the whooping crane at Wood Buffalo National Park, the role of Saguenay-Saint-Laurent in protecting whales, how Parks Canada is helping salamanders cross the road at Waterton Lakes National Park and much more.

The Government of Canada has contributed $500 000 to this 150 square metre modular, interactive, travelling exhibit that features five ecosystems: estuaries, inland rivers, lakes, oceans and wetlands. Visitors can explore each ecosystem through images, text, audio, video, hands-on interactive displays, specimens, models, artefacts and mini-dioramas. The exhibit will travel to venues across Canada for a period of at least three years.

Through a network of 42 national parks, 167 national historic sites, and three national marine conservation areas, Parks Canada sets the stage and invites Canadians, as well as people from around the world, to engage in personal moments of inspiring discovery of our treasured natural and historic places.
