Green Mountain Coffee Roasters will soon face some competition in the form of another company making single-serving packs of coffee compatible with its Keurig brewing machines.
Privately held coffee roaster Rogers Family Co. will reportedly begin selling the one-cup pods to supermarkets. Bloomberg reports that Jon Rogers, president of the company, said the company will sell a Keurig-compatible 12-pack of single-serving coffee packs for a recommended price of $6.99 at stores such as Costco .
Rogers told Bloomberg its pods are difference from Green Mountain's patented K-Cups because they have a mesh screen on the bottom instead of plastic.
Green Mountain sells a variety of its own beverage brands in its K-Cup packs via various retailers, as well as Starbucks and Dunkin' Brands' Dunkin' Donuts coffees.
Bloomberg noted that Rogers also supplies coffee products to Safeway and SuperValu .
