DENVER, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) announced today that Greg Hansbrough, U.S. Paralympic soccer player, long distance runner and brother of Indiana Pacers player Tyler Hansbrough, is running in Fans on the Field, the center's sports-fan-friendly 5K and 10K walk/run. The fourth annual event will be held Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. at INVESCO Field at Mile High.

At the age of 7, Hansbrough was diagnosed with a life-threatening malignant brain tumor. After undergoing risky surgery to remove the tumor, doctors thought he might never walk again. But Hansbrough's relentless drive and infamous positive outlook pushed him to accomplish more than most thought possible.

Although the left side of his body is weaker, Hansbrough is now an accomplished athlete. He has completed multiple marathons and half-marathons, and is a member of the U.S. Paralympic soccer team.

"Greg is an amazing role model for NSCD athletes," says Craig Pollitt, President/CEO National Sports Center for the Disabled. "Not only has he persevered through a life-threatening illness, he has gone on to succeed as a top athlete. It is Greg's persistence and optimism that make him an ideal NSCD partner and Fans on the Field runner. We are thrilled to have him participate in the event."

For more information about Hansbrough and his participation in Fans on the Field, contact Rachel Hirt, NSCD Marketing Director at (303) 633-5802 or rhirt@nscd.org. The 5K and 10K courses are both fully accessible and travel through Coors Field, Pepsi Center and INVESCO Field at Mile High. Additional Media Opportunity:

Hansbrough will also attend participant packet pick-up Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at INVESCO Field at Mile High. Media are invited to attend and interview Hansbrough. Along with Hansbrough's attendance, packet pick-up provides ideal pre-race interview and photo opportunities, as approximately 2,500 race participants and NSCD athletes are expected.
