The Kelly Lake Station will operate as one of Nova Scotia's main truck screening systems. The system will also fall under ITS Canada Architecture, as it will also include a roadside safety system and possess the ability to screen driver credentials on site.

The Kelly Lake system will weigh and classify commercial vehicles as they travel at highway speeds. Approaching vehicles will be automatically evaluated and compared with legal load limits. If the vehicle is found to be compliant, the driver will be directed via electronic message signs to bypass the weigh station without stopping. If the vehicle is non-compliant, the driver will be directed to exit the highway and report to the weigh station for further processing.

IRD's President and CEO, Mr. Terry Bergan, states "IRD is pleased that Nova Scotia Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal continues to place its confidence in our company to provide WIM screening solutions for their automated truck inspection stations.
