KREFELD, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--InterfaceFLOR, a leading manufacturer of carpet tiles, is the first US company ever to win the German Sustainability Award. Lindsey Parnell, president and CEO EMEAI, received the award for “Germany’s most sustainable recycling” in person. The accolate under the patronage of Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel is presented to companies that consistently and extensively implement the principles of sustainability throughout their business to a high standard.

The 14 members of the jury were highly impressed by the determination with which InterfaceFLOR follows its goal of sustainability throughout the life cycle of their products. “Under the company’s ReEntry programme used tiles arte taken back and recycled to systematically close the loop of the product life cycle. A high recycling rate – up to 35 per cent of the yarns and up to 74 per cent of the carpet backings – already prove the success of this concept”, the experts explained their decision.

Lindsey Parnell stressed that recycling is an important part of InterfaceFLOR’s more comprehensive sustainability strategy Mission Zero: “To our company, sustainability means maintaining a fully-functioning profit-making business whilst ensuring no adverse impact to society or the environment. We want to reach this goal by 2020. This is a mission that calls for a holistic long-term approach. Therefore, recycling is just one piece of ‘Mission Zero’. Elimination of waste or the development of environmentally friendly products, manufacturing and services.”

InterfaceFLOR follows this strategy since 1995. Among other achievements, the company managed to reduce emission of greenhouse gases by 67 per cent during this period.
