BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- LaSalle Hotel Properties on Tuesday named Alfred L. Young as its new chief operating officer, effective Nov. 3.

Young, 42, who will also have the title of executive vice president, is currently the managing director-hospitality for Caribbean Property Group. He worked for LaSalle from 2000-2007 in both asset management and acquisition roles.

Young will take the place of Michael Barnello, who was named chief executive of the real estate investment trust last month after former CEO Jon Bortz retired.

LaSalle operates upscale hotels, resorts and convention centers in 11 states.

LaSalle shares closed up 99 cents, or 5.4 percent, at $19.50 in Tuesday trading, and gained another 6 cents in after-hours trading following the personnel move.
