Nearly 300,000 tourists expected in Las Vegas for July 4 weekend

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Nevada tourism officials predict thousands of travelers are heading to Las Vegas for the Independence Day holiday weekend.A spokesman for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said Thursday that roughly 292,000 people are expected to visit Las Vegas through Monday.That's a 3 percent increase from the 2010 Fourth of July holiday, when 283,000 people visited Sin City.Hotel occupancy is expected to be at 92 percent, up from 89 percent last year.Visitors are expected to spend more than $179 million, excluding gambling dollars.Last year, Independence Day revelers generated a non-gambling impact of $173 million.
