COLLEGE STATION, TX--(MARKET WIRE)--Mar 17, 2009 -- O.I. Corporation (NasdaqGM:OICO - News) announced today that the newly introduced iTOC-CRDS to measure isotopic carbon was awarded the Editors' Choice Silver Prize at the 60th Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy held last week in Chicago, IL. O.I. Corporation (d.b.a. OI Analytical) and Picarro Inc. worked together to develop this novel, integrated technology. The Editors' Choice Awards recognize the most innovative instruments presented at the Pittcon exposition.
The iTOC-CRDS measures organic carbon, inorganic carbon, and the carbon isotope ratio (Delta13C) in liquid, solid, and viscous samples. Applications for the iTOC-CRDS include food origin and adulteration, environmental science, and ecosystem studies. As an industry leader in carbon analysis for more than thirty years, OI recognized the value of teaming with Picarro to offer a system that adds the determination of carbon isotope ratio to the measurement of carbon concentration in a range of samples. OI's diverse experience in carbon-analysis applications combined with Picarro's robust WS-CRDS technology will instill confidence in this new measurement technique and opens up a world of new carbon-analysis applications.
Craig Marvin, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, commented, "OI Analytical has been active with isotopic carbon analysis in aqueous samples for a number of years, and the iTOC-CRDS system creates new opportunity for characterizing isotopic carbon in media previously not available to the market. OI looks forward to continuing its work with Picarro to develop new applications while selling this exciting new technology to the market."
Dr. Don Segers, President and Chief Operating Officer, commented, "OI Analytical is honored to share this prestigious award with Picarro. This recognition is a result of the investment OI has made in new product development and application research. We congratulate Picarro and thank them for their partnership in developing this innovative solution for isotopic carbon analysis."
